Can't you use CategoryAddSymbol and CategoryRemoveSymbol for this?

CategoryAddSymbol("^GSPC", categoryWatchlist, ETFWatchlistNumber);
   other AFL here
CategoryRemoveSymbol("^GSPC", categoryWatchlist, ETFWatchlistNumber);
