Hi everybody, Old issue - new angle. Is it possible to first "create" a AB database from a MS database using the "Metastock Importer", and having created it to satisfaction, change the database settings to use the MS plugin to update it seamlesly?
The reason I ask is The MS database is configured into folders (each with a Master/ Emaster file) that classify different market segments, indices etc, separately. This is a good structure to have. And when this database is read on Equis Metastock, I can actually browse the folder and get into that market segement I want. But when I use MS plugin to CREATE a AB database, all the tickers get clubbed under one market/ group. The seperation offered in the original MS database is lost. I then have to use the "organise Assignments" tool to separate this into groups and watchlists. And when the original MS database comes with non standard 8-digit numbers as ticker symbols, using the "organise assignment" tool is impossible, because this tool only reads tickers and not full names. "...so you see I have come to doubt, all that I once held as true......." Paul Simon thanks in advance for any help to get me out of this vicious cycle. 2009/2/17 edwol53 <[email protected]> > Thankyou to all that suggested remedies. > > In the end I deleted the database in the AB directory C:\Program > Files\AmiBroker\MSData, then recreated the database (same name and > destination) with MS plugin and all is working as it should (or as I > expect it to). > > I am not sure as to that being the correct and how that affects AB > in how it stores its information, but I could not find any tool or > procedure to remove the database. > > It seems that data MS Import & MS plugin - may have been the issue. > > Cheers > Still learning > Ed > > > --- In [email protected] <amibroker%40yahoogroups.com>, "CS" > <ces...@...> wrote: > > > > What program are you using to do the daily update of the MetaStock > files? > > > > The Quotetracker files should be in separate folders from the MS > files. > > Deleting them should have no effect on the MS files. > > > > The MS plugin supplies the data directly to AB from the MS data > files. > > No need to put data in AB data folders. > > > > For diagnostics, I suggest that you contact Equis support and get > a copy (free) of Downloader. > > It can look at (TEST function) the data files and see if they are > correct. > > > > -CS > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: edwol53 > > To: [email protected] <amibroker%40yahoogroups.com> > > Sent: Monday, February 16, 2009 3:05 AM > > Subject: [amibroker] Re: Metastock external EOD update & > Amibroker MS plugin > > > > > > CS thanks for the response. > > > > The answer is yes to your questions below. > > > > Each MS directory has a Master & Emaster & are accessed by both > > Metastock & Tradestation on this machine (done so for many > years), > > it would not have "Imported Metsatock Data" manually otherwise, > and > > the paths are correct. > > > > as for the MS Plugin I have the Configure Paths to Metastock > folders > > set for all the folders I use for both MS and TS. > > > > Your comment about a "crippled" MS Plugin intrigues me even > though > > the ticker names are there in the data AB has stored/or reads. > > > > I will try to set up another machine tomorrow - and see if that > > presents a different result. > > > > BTW how do I delete the MSData data base only and leave the > > QuoteTracker database in tact - is it a manual process by > deleting > > the folder eg C:\Program Files\AmiBroker\MSData?
