I've always been a believer in not getting software until it's been out for
awhile also. So I waited about 8 months after the release of Windows 7 before
getting it. I'm not sure if waiting for a formal service pack release is
necessary anymore since if you allow automatic updates from Microsoft (either
explicitly authorizing or letting it happen transparently), I think you can be
assured of having the latest and greatest. I know I got a boatload of updates
when I first installed W7 and little ones (mostly security related I think)
keep coming pretty constantly.

It will be interesting to see if and when MS has service pack releases in the
future. I suppose there could be updates that can't be done through the Updater
so they may batch those into a service pack.
