In my opinion, AmIRC *IS* the best you can get.
Being connected 24/7 really tends to show you the good/bad points of any
IRC client. The good points far outweigh the bad ones ;)
I think if you download the archive, there is a changes file outlining
all the updates.
And no, it's not totally bug free, but it's not far from it.
