Yes, and while there are several AREXX script solutions available on
Aminet, I've found YAM2AmIRC.lha (comm/mail on Aminet) to be quite nice, and
chock full of email oriented features (besides the basic checking for new
mail).
As this script it rather AmIRC-specific, I doubt it'd work with STRICQ
without extensive modification.
