I bought one of those black boxes on E-Bay, and I have had good sucess
with
it on 10 meters the last two seasons. These amplifiers are not "turn-key"
ready for amateur radio. I have had two of these 11 meter linear's, and they
have too much gain (for a 3 watt carrier exciter), no negative feedback, no
bias to set the transistors in AB bias point, they tend to be unstable, no
SWR protect, the input impedance is not a good 50 ohm resistive match, etc.
etc. These amplifiers require some TLC before they are to be part of a
spectrally clean amateur transmitter. That said, they can be a building
block for a good 10 meter AM mobile set up.
I put my 10 meter station in the car the last two September's, and 10
meters AM was alive with signals on and around 29-29.1 Mhz. How is the band
doing these days, and do we think we got another year, or two left from this
cycle?
Regards,
Jim
