I feel like it might be necessary to sometimes to be able to
jump in using other modes, such as during an emergency or just because
the wires came untwisted.
I remember when the going got too rough in the old mobile rig, I would
just send CW with the mike button to let everyone know I was still
listings, and a few hundred miles down the road the conditions would get
better or I would sign out and tell them (in CW) I was going to get a
motel. In those days everyone spoke CW.
