First- this is in no way "off topic."
Most boatanchors run AM, and awards for so doing are
fair game for discussion.
Getting the League to create this endorsement might be tough.
There is a big bias against AM at the ARRL.
And with Mr. FCC's negative comments at Dayton about
using "6 KCs of bandwidth", that makes it double tough.
I've been a ham for almost 30 years and I've never seen
the day that a AM QSO or two on an HF band was doing anyone
any real harm. Sometimes an SSB a**hole or three
want to start a stink and raise cain, but in almost every case
the movement of a few hundred cycles into
otherwise empty spectrum would have solved
any real or (usually) imagined problem
for the Donald Duckite and his stooges.
Nevertheless, there are people who take things like this
on as a matter of religion, and by God you're going to do
it their way or else. You can usually ignore these freaks,
but not when they're in charge.

I agree with Mr. Stinson.
Personally I couldn't care less what the arrl does anymore. Their
anti-CW spirit has me tossing the magazines from my lifetime subscription in
the waste can every month.
The League speaks out of both sides of its mouth. On one hand they
whine about 6 KC AM bandwidth being too much but then they condemn CW with
its lesser bandwidth. But then they try to sell more magazines with their
sappy covers with pictures of the fine, old vintage gear.
Years ago they offered a 160 meter AM endorsement but I do not know if
they still do. I really don't pay any attention to them anymore.
No....I don't think if it involves doing anything with modes and gear
that is older than 5-10 years they'll be supportive. I wish you the best of
luck and maybe...just maybe...you and Pete can get through to them that they
need to stop alienating the folks that built their organization over the
years.
