Darrell,

I wonder if some of these rigs have a problem or two? A web search
verified that a G-76 can indeed put out a clean 40 watts on 6 meters. So far
two thumbs down, and two thumbs up. Maybe the neutralizing link is backwards
on ours, or the 6 meter coils are not peaked. Did you use a 8.4 Mhz FT-243
(50.4) crystal? Could there be different brands of the 6DQ5 more suitable
for 6 meter operation?

I picked up ten 7984's NIB for $4.50 each recently. One of these is
used in
the Ameco TX-62, and are each rated at about 50 watts output Class C FM at
150 MHz. My G-76 runs with ~ 13 volts DC on the filaments, and the 7984
wants 13.5 VDC. Not a bad fit except for the compactron socket required.

I was looking into the 7984 for use in one of my supped up Central
electronic 20A's...

Regards,
Jim

Jim,
You got me curious. I had never tried my G-76 on 6 meters. I fired up the
transmitter and could only get about 12 watts output. This was with about
90 watts input. I didn't go any farther. At least with my G-76, I've got to
concur with you. The 6DQ5 was very "distressed".
