went to the metal shop today.. Got a 24x33" plate cut from 1/4" steel. Took it and four 2" casters to a welder, got them welded on. Then went home, and with some ingenuity, got the 1500 lb beast up on the new set o' wheels, all by myself. I knew I still had it in me. This will beat trying to slide it on the floor!
It's not that the cabinet is flimsy, but the bottom of it is made of the same guage as the sides etc. and it's not very thick. By the time I drill and bolt this plate to the unit, the whole thing should be much more stable. I wonder if the intent with such cabinets was that the builder would, themselves, place a steel plate in the bottom if they intended to put heavy iron inside? Then.. a neighbor called me over, it seems her CB-nut husband (deceased, my he rest in peace) had stashed a big box of tubes and parts in a shed 20 years ago. When the grandson tore down the dilapidated old shed, behold! several boxes of tubes, and among them a pair of 304TLs.. And I always figured him for a 4-400 man myself. Especially since Mr. key-down was getting 3KW out of three yellow-hot 400's in a 'linear'. he used to talk alot on it at night, but after his stroke, all he could say was "nayma nayma" So he'd key the thing up and holler nayma-nayma-nayma-nayma... into the D-104 for about 30 seconds.
