It was a GREAT hamfest. My wife commented that the Butler HF was just a good as Dayton - at least it did not rain. She accompanied me to Dayton and we both got drenched!
It was nice to see Don Mertz and others. Last Sunday June 6th was the Breezeshooter's Hamfest at the Butler County Fairgrounds, roughly an hour outside of Pittsburgh. There are only 2 hamfests in Western PA that could be considered medium to large and this is one of them. The number of sellers was about normal for this fest, as was attendance. I parked with our club (WASH), which sets up in a compact area and has a nice picnic lunch for all club members and families. Boatanchors seen SX-28 $150 kind of ratty unsold Drakes of all descriptions--saw many--mostly or all unsold Drake TR-7 with VFO, PS, and accessories--$650 unsold Heathkit Comanche sold Heathkit AR-3s, several, sold Heathkit Seneca--painted blue! Heathkit Lunchboxes--various around $20 each National NC-57s--$75 and $50 Multi-Elmac AF-67 with AC PS--$75 (bought this one--it is gorgeous) Hallicrafters SX-25 Defiant with repainted speaker--$225 Hallicrafters S-36 in great shape $225 National Military RAO--beautiful--$225 NC-183D--$210 sold EFJ Viking I with VFO--very clean--$250 National NC-300 GRC-9 with dyno PS and other accessories--$350 sold R-392 with HB PS looking good--$250 unsold Lots of antique wooden radios, consoles, cathedrals, etc. Antique wooden wall phones--$250 each Not much military stuff at all Not as much old test gear as I am used to seeing--just a few old tube Tripletts, HPs and Hickoks. Saw no Hickok tube testers. Is it just me, or has the older, blue-face Eico test gear vanished from the hamfest scene? Saw none. One of the antique radio vendors had a large load of older, pre-octal NOSB tubes and sold the whole lot for one price the moment he opened his truck. It would have been fun to go through that pile. I did not hear the price. Other Tubes: 4-400s $75 each, 809's $15 each, VT-4C $90 each I spent probably $80 on a great selection of NOSB boatanchor parts from Millen, National, Hammarlund and all the right brand names. Along with the used parts I picked up, the N3RHT junkbox had a very good day. Saw Dave Knepper and his wife. Also saw Mark Folartz and several other AMers and collectors. They generally set up as a group in one corner of the fairgrounds. The morning went by in a blip and I was sad to see it go. 73, Don Merz, N3RHT The information contained in this e-mail may be confidential and is intended solely for the use of the named addressee.
