Brett, Those 813's are practically indestructable --- and I should know, too, having used them in my amplifier for some 16 years now (only had to replace the tubes ONCE!...and we're talking surplus/Hamfest jugs here, too)...
I have examples here of BOTH the graphite AND metal plates --- NO IDEA how the metal plate versions retained the same "813" number --- it CAN'T possibly be the same tube! --- but it has. I have yet to use the metal ones, though... Never could understand why guys spend the big $$$ for tubes --- albeit modern, low drive, efficient ones --- when rugged, bargain basement bottles like the 813 still abound... ~73~ Eddy VE3CUI - VE3XZ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brett gazdzinski" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'Discussion of AM Radio'" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 31, 2006 2:20 PM Subject: RE: [AMRadio] 813 question > I have about ten 813 tubes, mostly hamfest specials, actually, > they are ALL ham fest specials. > > When I built the 813 rig, I picked 2 and plugged them in, been using > those same tubes for 15 years. > At one point, I went through my collection, plugging in one tube > at a time, and they all worked well. > > I think there are 2 different kinds, ones with graphite plates, and a few > with metal plates? > > > Over all the years of using tubes, I had one 75th loose its filament, and > one 4d32 has a piece of metal floating around in it (but it works), and > I have an 811 with no plate cap.
