Collins, RCA, and Gates were notorious for omitting shorting sticks in their 1 kW and smaller transmitters in the 1950s and 1960s. One of the first things that I did was to add a shorting stick in each of my transmitters. NEVER work on these big transmitters without first applying a shorting stick to all filter capacitors and other high voltage points.
