If you come across the mother lode of either one and want a purchasing partner, give a yell. I wouldn't mind snagging a bunch more myself. I haven't used anything with nuvistors long enough to figure out life expectancy, but I've replaced a lot of them in rigs I've gotten. Leaves me wondering if they crap out fast. A lot of the 50s-60s gear, mainly VHF, seems to use them. They do work well.
You sounded fabulous up here last Friday with the Bartlesville transmitter. Wonderful audio, 20+ over S9. ~ Todd KA1KAQ On 11/29/06, A.R.S. - W5AMI <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
Hey Todd, Yeah, the 6CW4's are supposed to be a direct replacement. Seems the diff is that the 6DS4 is sharp cutoff, or maybe the other way around. I suspect they would work fine for the Ameco preamp. I'm in no hurry, just getting all the stuff out of boxes where they have been stored for 5+ years and going through things. The preamp is dead now, and the only thing I can figure is one or both the tubes are shot. There's not that much to this thing ;) Thanks! Brian
