Indeed, the "hole" at the top was for the "2 1/2" meter output. The TBS 50 was my novice rig in 1976. My Dad (The 1st W1TAV) really had a lot of respect for the design of this little transmitter. When I bought it home, one of the first things we did, he as control op, was put it on 75 phone and my first contact was no other then WA1HLR!
