Why is it that very few of us are using the new expanded frequencies on 80
meters for AM?
Before you respond with a statement that these frequencies are being
utilized, then, why all the talk about 3870, etc.?
A lot of us grumbled over the years that the F.C.C. was not listening to our
petitions, but then when it - to our surprise, I might add - it allowed us
to move down to 3600 Khz., the first night it was full of AM, then, the
frequencies became conspicuously quiet, so to speak.
Anyone want a QSO on 3712 or 3685 Khz, sometime?
I am about ready to recut my dipole to 3880 again!

I am not quick to assume some ssb qso is intentionally
interfering, as on their gear, they might not hear the AM,
their filters being narrow and ours being very wide sometimes.
Listening on 40 meters CW lately, I wonder why the slow code
I can copy is always under a south American ssb qso, or
right in with some real strong rtty station.
I hear one side of the QSO real well, the other side barely
or not at all, and assume the ssb or rtty is to low at the cw
stations receive to matter.
I am sure people think they own frequencies, and/or like to
harass AM, but I don't jump to assumptions about it.

That's a really good point, Bob. It happened up hear a while back with
some midwest guys wandering into a group in the northeast who had been
on since afternoon. The band does stange things, sometimes quite
suddenly. It can appear that someone just 'arrived' on the frequency
you're using, when in fact they've been there all along.
OTOH, all of us have witnessed the times when a few bad apples will
jump onto the frequency with the intent to cause problems. Many will
make a point of saying so, in so many words. Joe and others have
mentioned the remarks about running off AMers with their outdated gear
and mode. When dealing with that mentality, I always remember Don,
K4KYV's words of wisdom: turn up the wick! Not always the best
practice, but more often than not, it's the only one they understand.
