May I recommend doing a median age in addition to
average age? Use the same same batch of responses,
just run it two ways.
The poll closes, make a graph with an age timeline on
the x-Axis (constrain it to a couple decades to
wherever the average age shapes up), and a numerical
count on the y-axis (so that each "54" gets a visible
mark, one above the other).
Then, put a dot for every respondent on it and draw a
line about where half the total response is on either
side.
There's probably some free software to make a running
(updating) graphic out of it.
It may provide a more practical sense of demographic.
