If it is a DC relay, I've found that adding a backwards-diode across
the coil (as is often wisely done to prevent surges upon break)
actually makes the relay stay pulled-in a bit longer than would
otherwise be the case. I think it is opposing the current created by
the collapsing field in the coil.
