There has been a lot of discussion about old receivers and other vintage rigs on the reflectors lately. If you really love old gear, here is a tip especially for those living in the Mid-Atlantic area. MAARC, the Mid Atlantic Antique Radio Club has decided to reach out to amateur radio enthusiasts, especially those interested in boatanchors. In light of this, they are inviting all interested amateurs to a combined Antique Radio Meet and Vintage Hamfest. The event will be held at 9:00AM Sunday, October 21st at the Davidsonville Family Recreation Center, Davidsonville, MD. Davidsonville is located near Bowie, MD, in the Washington DC suburbs. It is easily reachable via US Route 50 and this connects to the Washington Beltway and the Chesapeake Bridge. For you Southerners, US 301 or I-95 are options.
Please note that this is an admission free event, including tailgating spaces. The only charge will be if you consign anything to the auction or win a bid on an auctioned item. Limited food and drinks will be available on the premises at reasonable prices. There is only one requirement: Please leave all computers and related equipment at home along with any fully solids stake rigs unless they can be considered boatanchor class such as the Hallicrafters SR-200 and Drake TR-5 and 7 series and similar gear. In order not to take up too much bandwidth, and possibly offend our wonderful webmasters, I will not post the flier here. If you are interested in attending, please respond DIRECT to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] or go to www.maarc.org/RadioFallFest.htm Please note that the site is gated and will not open until 9:00AM. If you arrive early, you will find that there is no place to wait due to the narrow width of the state road to the gate. There is also no place to turn around. If you arrive early, the best place to wait is at the gas station and food store about 2 miles from the Rec Center. It is located at the intersection of Davidsonville Road and MD Route 214. Waiting here until 9:00am will save you a lot of grief. 73 and hope you can make it.
