That S9er was a government issue update for some of the older Super Pros.
Ive got one in a box someplace around here; want to try it in the SX-28 once
I finish the overhaul. The 6BZ7, 6DJ8 and 6922 are even lower noise.
I used a 717A in the HQ-129x and it really woke up 20 & 15M; havent heard
any 10M openings.

And I had good luck with changing the front end on my SX99 to the S9er
using
a 6BQ7. Really hopped up the front end.

The only place the smaller tubes are better is in the front end. At IF,
and
audio there is no difference.
