The Greater Cincinnati Amateur Radio Association 1936 Net will host its
annual AM night on Thursday 27 December, 2007, starting at 9 PM Eastern
Standard Time on 1936 kHz. Everyone with AM capability is invited to
participate, regardless of QTH. In years past, stations as far away as the
west coast of Canada have joined in.
The club started in 1936 as a group of hams in the Cincinnati area who set
up and maintained emergency communications during the 1936 flood. The group
has met on 1936 kHz ever since, except during the War years. The years when
that part of the band was unavailable because of LORAN, the net operated but
another frequency was used.
The AM event will begin at 9 PM and run until everyone has called it an
evening. The net normally operates on SSB, but this one night of the year,
conducts its operation on AM to commemorate the amateurs' response to the
flood emergency.
See you on 160 next Thursday.
