I think you have done the right thing in your case Don because the low Z source that you have will dampen the XFMR anyway and I am sure it has a very high coupling coefficiency so that any resistive load, primary or secondary, will dampen the resonance.
I wonder if you have ever though of cross neutralizing the audio circuitry since it is all PP-triodes and transformer coupled?
