Often in December, I have experienced mid morning or mid afternoon propagation on the AM BC band like what Jim described.
It has always been within December, but usually a bit closer to December 22. As a child, I was always fascinated by this occurrence that would allow me to hear WMAQ, WLW, WLS, etc, from my home in central Mississippi.
