Hi Bob, For my $$$, I'd say you can't beat a Drake R-4 receiver (the closest thing besides that MIGHT be a Heathkit SB-301 --- but the '301 doesn't have 160-meters, and the "stock" optional AM filter is both pricey and narrow).
Good R-4's can be had for around the $125.00 price range these days.
