For $3 it is a good move if you only need a basic meter. It is nice to have one in your car if you run into car problems. Your kids and grandkids can use them to check batteries for their gadgets. You are correct that you won't be doing an HV work in your boatanchors. The only downside that I see is the A23 battery will cost nearly what the meter cost when you have to replace it, but again this is a $3 meter and you can throw it away! Who cares if the leads are permanently attached, again $3 meter.
