Welcome. Rules? I did not know there were any rules. I hear long old buzzard transmissions, short break in transmissions, low power, well in excess of legal power, belching, nasty audio, great audio, people zero beat, people way off frequency, etc....
Since you have a ranger, which is low power, you will want to get on in prime time and make really long transmissions, I think its required... On the east coast, weekend mornings and late afternoon are good times to get on 80. 40 meters used to be a great band for lower power, but without sunspots its not been so good...
