Volunteerism is an act of service.  Indeed it is the foundation of "service" 
(no matter if it is the Boy Scouts/FFA or the US military)...the questions are 
whose interest does one serve when one volunteers and how is ones service 
perceived.  .

I think you volunteer a lot for the BSA...I do.  When I do that the joy I get 
out of volunteering is the service...not so much volunteering just for the 
things that I enjoy.  

Are you saying that the folks who build the satellites are doing it for their 
own self interest?
