Yes I agree with you, the transverter needs to have a stable oscillator to work (ocxo, tcxo) and a pa is needed today done also with the semiconductor like module or mosfet. On this last issue I have many project available in my lab. Coming back to the transverter, do you think that the IF in VHF is suitable also when I'm working in mode L/S where the Smode is done through a down converter 2400/144MHz? Sure, have a radio with a third band solve all the problems, probably IC910 newer or the glorius 790. I'm scratching the head to take a decision..
