Zack, 

I have that headset & radio. What I did  was connect the Y cord to the speaker 
jack on the headset adapter (using a step up adaptor), one end plugs into the 
radio, the other into the recorder. I then ran an extension  from the mic jack 
on the headset to the radio. Works fine. I'll send you a picture of the set up 
off list.
