Hi All,
I am using a vertical dipole, 10 m above ground for AO 7 mode A and I
have good signals as soon as the bird is 1 degree above horizon. I think
the vertical dipole provides better illumination towards horizon but of
course has a null in the zenith, but that is anyway less interesting for
dx on shortwave and Satellite.
Cheers

I tried several times to get the mode A downlink of AO-7 to work for me. I
tried a dipole, a vertical (ground mounted)
and also a 3 element yagi but no dice. Next step is to get the vertical up at
20 or 30ft. and see what happens then.
YMMV.
If it's for general antenna concerns, then yes but you wouldn't be able to
rotate it in a very effective way :). I built a
rotatable dipole for 10m once using PVC pipe and then running the wire
alongside that pipe. Now one could of
course build it out but then it becomes a matter of material as well in order
to keep it stable.
