I've also signed up, and have probably bought a few hundred dollars worth of stuff since then. .5% is not huge, and is probably more helpful to Amazon (via publicity) than to AMSAT, but it can't hurt.
I would add that usually I go directly to the Smile page with my link, but on the rare occasion when I might follow another link or even type in amazon.com, Amazon reminds me that I am signed up for Smile. Not bad.
