Hey,
I didn't want to get into this, but it's hard to resist :P In my
opinion, Muslims have done exactly what they shouldn't have done. I am
Christian by birth, don't believe in religion, and most of my friend are
Muslim, even though I sound harsh, I hope Muslim readers don't take
this in an offensive way.

yeah!, hard to resist, I know :) I promised myself to answer to noone, and yet, I'm answering everyone... anyways, they did indeed what they shouldn't have done...

1. Muslims did attack a church in Lebanon in retaliation
to the drawings and they burnt the Danish Embassy in Beirut. They also
burnt some cars that where around the Embassy even though those
people had nothing to do with it. Even though a small group of
extremists are the ones who are responsible, they where surrounded by a
bigger groups of Muslims doing a "peacefull protest". Well, guess what,
it makes all of them look bad, and the media loves this and feeds this
through the whole world. And then the message emitted by those drawings
is reinforced. Each burnt down embassy and bomb threat make the
cartoons seems more and more real to the western world.

didn't know they attacked a church! It's unbeleivable as Islam is for the respect of all religions (and a real Muslim should know all 3 religions and read all 3 books, as they form a whole, not 3 separate religions).. but well, just the fact that they attack or burn is in itself contrary to the islamic laws... Islam is 100% non violent.. too bad so many stupid people don't respect it.. but I do understand some of them, it is more of a 'ras le bol' reaction.. they just couldn't take any more humiliation...

2. Islamic law does not apply in Denmark. Even though what they did
was immoral, stupid and just a way for the newspaper to get some
attention, the Muslim world should not try to punish the whole country
for the actions of a stupid newspaper editor (boycotts, burning
embassies and making Danish people afraid to travel to Muslim
countries). No matter how offensive the images are, they are not
allowed to impose Muslim law on country, and should not try to force
Muslim law on them by any means. They are certainly not allowed
to send bomb threats to the newspaper. Respect of other religions
is not something that is forced, it is something that is earned through
dialog and sharing. This again gives them an excuse to show how Muslim
countries don't have freedom of expression and are all under strict
control from their governments.

it's not about muslim laws.. it's about respect of the prophet and the religion in itself.. making the prophet appear as a terrorist is maybe not a law in Danemark, but it's still immoral.. the first reactions were boycotting the country's stuff, but then even more provocation was done... we're not trying to force muslim laws, we're just asking for respect of our religion.. and we're not trying to force it, we're requesting it and people laugh at us.. a lot of people are desperate... and I'm personnaly shoked by the world's reactions... also shoked by the muslim's reaction, I understand their feelings, but they went too far... question though.. a few groups (2 I think, in Syria and Lebanon) brought havoc by burning an embassy, and that's the symbol everyone sees.. that's what appears on TV.. why aren't we seeing all the pacific manifestations that are happening through out the whole world ?

But my main problem is that it shows the world that Muslims are
hostile, violent and aggressive. Think about it, you have the Western
world that publishes some harmless seeming cartoons, and you have the
Muslim world that starts burning, rioting and making bomb threats. Who
do you think looks good and who do you think looks bad? And how much
credibility are they giving the cartoons?

well.. muslims.. but that's because of the ignorance of most people.. and I don't think it's ever gonna chance, muslims are always 'the bad guys'.. but as I said, the violence that happened is small compared to all the pacific manifestations.. + those violent acts are 100% against the religion's laws.. so they shouldn't be labeled as 'muslims attacking...' but still.. that's what people see, which is too bad :(

In my opinion, Muslim should chill. The cartoons are offensive yes, but
they are not worth all this attention. The Danish newspaper is probably
making record profits now because of all this media attention. And
posting messages about it on a mailing list does not help. Just forget
about it and get on with your lives. Some stupid newspaper editor
decided to get smart, and well, it seems he accomplished everything he
wanted to. And Muslims are giving him exactly what he wants.

Phil, too bad you're not understanding this the same way as I do.. you can't ask people to stay quiet.. not after everything that's happening.. how many muslims have died because some country loves to kill muslims.. how many muslims live a horrible life because they are opressed by others.. and how would you feel for example, if you tried to help a friend by being nice to him and he just took it the wrong way and stoped talking to you? it's the same.. the world's opinion on muslims is so bad is is almost 100% opposite to everything the Islam is... so many people think Islam is violent, while it's the most non violent religion on earth...
people are just fed up and we just can't take it anymore and shut up...
Thanks for sharing your ideas...

Burger
