Yeah well, problem is space... I would prefer to get off from SF, mainly
because SF servers are crap most of the time... and we need something
more
secure and dependable.. not one that crashes every week...
anyways, I think that it would be better to use trac, use their wiki
system, and much more, but move all that off from SF to a separate
server... mainly because I'm fed up from SF, and because I hate all the
ads they've put in their website, it become so bloated... and we can't
really monitor the trackers, and a lot of permission issues, etc... I
don't know if trac would solve such a thing, but anyways, it's worth
looking into... we only need a separate server for this...
I actually find the webserver quite stable. It's just that the CVS goes
down a
lot. Also I use adblock against all their ads, but I don't really like
the
overall design of the site without them anyways.
yes, design is also crap imo, webserver is quite stable, yes.. but
sometimes unavailable and most of the time VERY slow.. (compared to other
websites..), but it's mainly its limitation that bothers me
now.. which server to use... :P it would be nice if we could have some
kind of common server, mirrored on many pcs over the world.. so,
assuming
me, alvaro and karol decide to be part of this 'server', then a write to
the 'server' would result in a write on all of our PC, when a user tries
to connect to the server (by typing http://amsn2.com) he'd get one of
our
PCs randomly (or based on the load of each one)... if one pc is down
(because of a disconnect, pc fried, or whatever), then the others will
take over, once you get back online, you resync with the other servers..
this way we can all act as a server, without fearing a power shortage
or a
reboot...
Sounds like a good idea, but probably not my pc. 1) My ISP blocks port
80, but
maybe I could ask them if they can unblock it. 2) I turn it off overnight
because I need total quitness to fall asleep. There is though an older
server
(it's eighter P1 or P2 :S) at my mom's work. I tried to set it up for a
personal server last year and halfway succeeded. I could try to finish
that
this year. But it would be devel only as it's quite slow. :P
don't work, nothing is mandatory! as I said, one pc could be enough, two
would make it more secure, and I'm sure over all the members we could find
3 or 4 people with 24/7 high bandwidth servers... which should be enough..
but still, for it to work, we should find something that does what I just
said (a distributed server)..
Don't take me wrong, I'm not talking about what "we should implement"
as a
side project.. I'm just talking about what we COULD USE IF it already
exists and is possible to easily set it up...
anyways, is just a half cent idea...
we could use a normal, one devel server (mine for example), but there's
no
guarantees on disconnects (which are rare but seem to happen everyday
for
the last 3 days and it's almost impossible to reconnect :@ damn ISP..
+ they raised their price...)
