It doesn't come from the smileys but from the font size :/
I just try with a bigger font and "My status" is not troncated. If you want
to try, you can test with Tahoma:7...

I guess smileys are too big? I think the status text box is set to
three lines. Line height is calculated from the text size. However, if
smileys are bigger than text height, this can happen.
