The only place where i have that color set (#333333) is on the new colors keys that Phil added inside settings.xml (the "state" one). So i don't think that is a Skin bug, but maybe about that added key.

            <state_online>#33333</state_online>
            <state_away>#333333</state_away>
            <state_noactivity>#333333</state_noactivity>
            <state_rightback>#333333</state_rightback>
            <state_onphone>#333333</state_onphone>
            <state_busy>#333333</state_busy>
            <state_mobile>#333333</state_mobile>
            <state_gonelunch>#333333</state_gonelunch>
            <state_offline>#333333</state_offline>

Cheers.

which plugins you use ? maybe it's the coloredNick plugin.. or maybe you set a custom color to the user... try
resetting the user's color and disable amsnplus/coloredNick plugins..
