Heya, I've only just noticed this, but a user has also reported (CF. http:// forums.cocoaforge.com/viewtopic.php?t=13716) that sometimes double clicking a contact in the CL doesn't start the conversation with them.. (It seems that lately people have been starting conversations with me, rather than the other way around..)
Right click, and choosing the start conversation option works consistently though.
