I don't think there are too many direct dependencies for aMSN and actually many of these are there because of the way debian packages things. For instance sox is not a requirement, AFAIK, and also docker I'm quite sure is not strictly needed. Also why python? And other dependencies are just thrown in because you don't have the choice over the compile flags of the single packages, being debian a binary distro (I'm talking mainly about ncurses).
