Hello,

I am trying to make aliases that group referrals from newsreaders by the
message id instead of the news hosts that people use. For instance, for
the following referrers:

1: news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
1: news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
1: news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
1: news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I would like to group them as:

4: news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

It seems that the way that wildcards are set up, I cannot do this without
making a separate alias command for each news server (of which there are
thousands). This is because analog interperates * as the pattern that
will be used in the alias.

Is there any way to do this? If not, it would be very useful - to me at
least :) - to add this ability to analog. For instance, make ** mean a
wildcard that you want to replace with your own string, and * be the
sting that you want copied to the alias (as it is now). Then, the command
for grouping newsreader hosts would be:

REFOUTPUTALIAS news://**/* news://newshost/*

If there is a way to do this now, please tell me!

Thanks,
David Creech
