I am trying to get DNS lookups in Analog to work for logfiles from a
small server I'm running (small literally, it's a palmtop). The server
software doesn't support DNS resolution, so I have to do it with Analog.

I'm running Analog on a Slackware 3.5 box. I enabled DNS lookups and
otherwise configured and then compiled Analog without problems. However,
when I generate a report, it's all unresolved IP's. I turned on debugging,
and this is part of the output:

D: Looking up 129.46.15.170:
D: can't resolve
D: Looking up 195.212.143.4:
D: can't resolve
D: Looking up 164.67.103.157:
D: can't resolve

....several hundred lines....

Not a single one resolved. The resulting DNS file looks like:

15497221 207.218.81.38 *
15497221 209.30.43.165 *
15497221 212.242.23.87 *
15497221 209.30.158.232 *
15497221 165.247.9.132 *
15497221 195.37.16.130 *

etc., all unresolved.

A message in the archives said to try dig, nslookup, etc. I didn't
install them originally as they're part of the bind package, but I copied
them over from another system, and they all function normally.

Both the server and this box are behind a gateway/firewall which is also
acting as a DNS server, so I don't think it's a problem with requests
getting through the firewall, if Analog makes normal DNS requests.

I have a couple other systems elsewhere running Analog 3.0 without
problems, but this is the first one with 3.3

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Thanks,
Mike Kopplin
