Sorry, I didn't read the subject of your original message. My comment above
didn't refer to DNS lookups.
Does version 3 go as fast as version 2 without the DNS lookups? I'm
surprised if DNS lookups are the key, as the two versions use exactly the
same calls. (It's almost the only bit of source code they have in common, in
fact).
