The NT Scheduler runs as a service, and the default account it uses is
the Local System account, which doesn't have access to any network
resources on other machines. You can change the scheduler to use a
Domain a/c (Control Panel/Services/Task Scheduler/Startup Properties).

Whether this is a good idea or not depends on the circumstances. All
scheduled tasks run under the same a/c, so you need to make sure that
the permissions are appropriate. And you have to give that a/c "Run as a
Service" privileges.

And you might want to add NET USE commands to the batch file you are
using to map your network drives, because drive mappings are usually
profile specific, and won't necessarily be there when you're not logged
in.

If you need to create a single report for log files on multiple Web
servers, setting up the scheduler for remote operation may be worth the
hassle, but if you just have a single Web server, my recommendendation
is to run Analog on the Web server, as you can use the Scheduler in it's
default configuration, and schedule it to run when you can predict the
Web server won't be too busy. (This works particularly well on a Dual
Processor system, as Analog only uses one of the processors, so the Web
server doesn't have to fight for a few cycles :-).

Subject: [analog-help] Failed to open logfile & output file over LAN

Thank you to Aengus for helping me get started using Analog with MS IIS v4.

In fact, when my BAT file is run from NT's command line, it produces the
correct Analog report at:

http://pucho.com/stats/report.html

This posting however, specifically concerns the integration of
NT's schedule service with Analog v3.32.

It seems that NT's scheduler service cannot read or write
to the remote webserver on the LAN.

Output generated by a my BAT file when run by NT's scheduler service:

C:\WINNT\system32>c:

C:\WINNT\system32>cd \analog332

C:\analog332>analog -G -gpucho.cfg
analog: Warning F: Failed to open logfile
  f:\inetpub\customer\alvarez\stats\logs\w3svc57\ex990920.log: ignori
(For help on all errors and warnings, see docs/errors.html)
analog: Fatal error: failed to open output file
  f:\inetpub\customer\alvarez\stats\report.html for writing: exiting

C:\analog332>pause
Press any key to continue . . .

The webserver (Eluthera) has been mapped to drive F locally on the PC
analog is being run on.

These are the parameters in my cfg file:
LOGFILE f:\inetpub\customer\alvarez\stats\logs\w3svc57\ex990920.log
# drive F on this system has been mapped to UNC "\\Eluthera\D Drive\"
OUTFILE f:\inetpub\customer\alvarez\stats\report.html

I don't know how to get past NT scheduler's error message.
Could this be related to bad file or directory permissions?
How can I get past this problem? Your comments, tips,
suggestions and advise are welcome. Please advise. Thank you.
