This is going to really make me sound like a newbie, but I swear I've been
doing this for a long time.

I run reports on my WebStar server, and I use the "Successful Requests For
Pages" or the "Pages" column when I discuss the activity on my server.

However, in the "Request Report" section, the only column is "#reqs:", and
I have a site that shows up this way:

in the "Directory Report", it shows to have served 3279 pages, but in the
"Request Report" section, it shows the main (default) page in the
subdirectory to have had 6148 requests.

How can I explain that clearly?
