Paul,

there is a section in the analog docs (webworks.html) which describes stats
generally. See section 4 which caveats how to interpret the usage stats.
Given that qualification, you can look for new, distinct IP addresses for
computers (hosts) which accessed the site. I don't know how to do this
directly, but you can do it indirectly.
Run the report for the whole period over which you are analysing say 1/1 to
31/5, and get the number of distinct hosts. If you want to get the number of
new users in May, then run the report again for 1/1 to 30/4, and the
difference is the number of distinct hosts in May which were not recorded in
1/1 to 30/4.
(If you simply ran the report for May you will get the distinct users in
that period, but that will include new and old users)
There may be a better way, but I don't know it.
