Well, actually line-by-line filtering is what SED was written for. :) But Perl is
much more powerful. You could also do something with a few grep lines and a shell
script which might be faster than Perl.

However, I don't know what you want these new log files for, but you might be able
to achieve your ends by using Analog cahce files. If the logfiles are just going
to be processed again by Analog, then the cahce files will do what you need and
save even more storage by only storing the information that Analog needs.
