I've been struggling to reconcile webtrends and analog reports for quite
some time now, with some success. to be safe we run both, and compare the
numbers regularly. I mostly prefer analog, it's more 'low-level', intuitive
and accurate, not to mention faster (in fact, I just ran some sample
logfiles thru greps and Perl parsing scripts and the number I got was
exactly what analog reported, giving me great confidence in its reports).
but the bottom line is that management likes the pretty presentation of
webtrends, and maybe its status as an 'industry standard'. as for the
'creative' reports of webtrends, I believe the CTO has made management aware
of their vague nature (whether that sunk it or not, who knows). as he puts
it, the software is called webTRENDS.
