One issue we saw with our Netscape logs and software virtual servers was we
wanted to track traffic by individual virtual servers as well as the system
as a whole. Without making separate log files for each virtual server - the
one log file would not show enough detail to determine which site the user
was going to. I.E. a hit to www.site1.com/page1.html and a hit to
www.site2.com/page1.html would both show a request for /page1.html in the
log (no reference to which site it was for)....

Actually Brian, the overhead can become quite significant under Apache when
running a large number of virtual hosts (which may not be the case here).
This
is described in the Apache docs, suggesting that you log all domains
together
and split them externally. I think "a large number" is probably around 100,
but
of course this depends on your hardware. :)
