Thanks Massimo and to every one at Analog Help mailing list who helped
resolve the QuickDNS issue. Apart from not running QDNS from the cmd.exe
software in the first place, it was also a combination of things. First of
all, my dnsfile.txt was not in the same directory as the QDNS directory!

Secondly, when I finally got QDNS running, I found that the IP addresseses
outside of the company network could not be resolved because of a
firewall/DNS entry issue- QDNS tried leaving the network to resolve the IP
addresses but the DNS entry number used by the machine storing the log files
and Analog etc would not allow it access outside of the network. When the
number was changed, QDNS was able resolve the addresses.

Looking back on the whole challenge, it has become apparent that I could
have resolved the IP Addresses using only Analog if I had changed the DNS
entry in the first place. But there is no doubt that QDNS really increased
Analog's processing speed by resolving all the IP addresses (for DNS
LOOKUPS) before passing the addresses on to Analog. It is really easy when
u know how!

However, the QDNS documentation can still be improved on as it lacks the
clarity needed for a beginner like myself to feel comfortable with. If u
still want the address, it is
www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/qdns.htm.

Kind Regards
Stephen

Hi Stephen;

no, I'm saying that QDNS needs to know which log file you want to be
processed (and where this file sits on your hard disk), and also
where you want the resolved IP info written (i.e. name and location
of the dnsfile.txt file). Since this information is already stored in
your analog(whatevername).cfg file, you just give QDNS the name for
this file

well, a .log extension would probably help for the log file. Also,
are your logs in the same directory with Analog? I don't see any path
here...

this is from one of my CFGs:

LOGFILE I:\webmaster\remosa\2000Jun26.log
DNSFILE remosa-dnsfile.txt

OUTPUT ASCII
OUTFILE C:\Windows\desktop\remosa-%y%M%D.txt

The last you said. This is to launch QDNS.
I keep qdns.exe together with analog.exe and all the cfg files.

In a DOS window, go to the right location (for me it's
E:\tools\analog) and type

QDNS /G new.cfg

Done.

Or - even easier: create a link/icon to qdns.exe,
right click on it > properties > link and add the string
" /G new.cfg" (without quotes, but with a leading space)
after qdns.exe into the "destination" field. Save, and click on the
icon every time you want QDNS to run. I keep some of these icons on
my desktop, all pointing to different config files to process
different websites' logs.

this only if you're not pointing to a .cfg file which already have
those information

been there, not so long ago ;-)

Let me know if it works now.

ciao
