Here is a solution, not elegant but easy to remember. I add a lot of 
parenthesis to make thing more clear (I hope...)

HOSTALIAS REGEXP:^148\.122\.205\.(.|..|(1[01].)|(12[0-7])) Stavanger

That means: every host starting (the ^) with 148.122.205 and then one of 
these (the stick | means "or")
- . = a single digit (0-9)
- .. = a double digit (11-99)
- 1[01]. = a number starting with 1, having a 0 or a 1 as second digit and 
a third digit (thus 100-119)
- 12[0-7] = a number starting with 12 and a digit between 0 and 7 
(included) as 3rd digit

So the last regexp in
HOSTALIAS REGEXP:^148\.122\.205\.((12[89])|(13.)|(14[0-3])) Trondheim
means:
- 128 or 129
- 130-139
- 140-143

Now you can send a postcard to your perl programmers telling them they are 
less useful :)
