If I request a page from www.serverA.com, and there is a HREF in that
page that links to www.serverB.net, I don't have to tell ServerA if I
visit ServerB. In fact, there isn't any way for modern browsers to tell
ServerA that they are going to ServerB. I can tell ServerB when I get
there that I just came from ServerA, but the reverse doesn't work.

If you really have to know this information, you can create a "jumpto"
script on your server, and call this script with the target URL as a
parameter. This will cause the browser to visit ServerA, and ServerA
will redirect the user to ServerB. Now you have a record of who asked
for that redirection.

<A HREF="/scripts/jumpto?www.ServerB.org">

(Note that you should use strong consistency checking in any such
script, to avoid potential security issues).

You can see an example of this technique at www.news.com in the "More
news from around the Web" section at the bottom.
