Hello,

I have recently managed to convince my employers to use Analog as opposed
to another commercial log analyzer. This other log analyzer, let's call it
W3btr3nd5, takes hours to "grep" the logs and generate reports. Analog
has been a blessing and Dr Stephen Turner has definitely scored many
karmic points for his software.

Now my problem:

And while I understand the inaccuracies in counting cookies as a unique
user tracking mechanism, our "suits" think this acceptable. I am currently
logging the cookie field, and picking it up using the %u macro. Once I've
processed the log files, Analog outputs the top "blah" number of users
(50) and the total number not listed. But I'm lazy! I would like to know
the total number of unique cookie fields.

i.e. "My first 50 results by number of requests" + [not listed: 30000 ]

I'm using report magic to beautify the reports, but have not found a way
to achieve this. Does anyone know if I've not RTFM'ed enough, or will I
have to "maually" hack the "COMPUTER" outputted (is that a word?) file?

The QUICK Summary gives me the Most active user, but not the total number
of users. Damn, I know I'm missing something!

Apologies to anyone trying to decipher this mail, but the "other" software
has been keeping me up at nights. I would also like to re-itterate, that I
understand the problems with cookie tracking, but the "suits" have a
meeting, or something equally important to attend, and they HAVE to have
the "figures". Damn those "Can Do!" people ;-)

---[ Rant cut short, due to disinterest from the crowd ]---

Thanks,
